Migration Framework
LMS Migration & SCORM Transfer Checklist
Migrating to a new LMS does not have to risk lost course history or broken compliance audits.
This practical 4-phase, 16-point checklist walks your team through exporting historical completion records, migrating SCORM 1.2 packages, setting up SAML/SCIM directory synchronization, and validating recertification timelines with zero downtime.
Phase 1: Pre-Migration Inventory & Audit
- Export master list of all active courses, authors, and enrolled learners.
- Catalog all SCORM 1.2 zip packages and verify original source files (SCORM 2004 packages need converting to 1.2, or re-exporting from your authoring tool, before import).
- Audit active certifications and compile a list of expiration dates for recertification.
- Document existing custom roles and permission mappings across department managers.
Phase 2: Data Extraction from Legacy LMS
- Export historical course completion records (User ID, Course Name, Score, Completion Date).
- Download issued certificate PDFs and corresponding certificate serial numbers.
- Export user demographic attributes (Department, Location, Title, Manager Email).
- Backup all uploaded course assets (videos, PDFs, SCORM zips, slide decks).
Phase 3: Setup & Configuration in Personal Academy
- Configure custom organizational subdomain (e.g. learn.yourcompany.com).
- Establish SAML 2.0 Single Sign-On with Okta or Microsoft Entra ID.
- Enable SCIM 2.0 automated user provisioning to mirror your corporate HR directory.
- Import SCORM packages into the Personal Academy Course Studio and test playback.
Phase 4: Historical Data Import & Validation
- Upload legacy completion CSV via the Admin Historical Migration wizard.
- Verify that learner profile records match historical completion timestamps.
- Set up automated recertification rules for expiring compliance certificates.
- Execute a pilot test with a 10-person test cohort before company-wide cutover.
